Summer is for Weddings!

O summer. Flip flops, lemonades, barbeques, bikinis and what else? Weddings of course! June and July with its sunny days and warm evenings are most definitely considered peak season for weddings. I love summer weddings, especially vineyard weddings. What's not to love? Rows and rows of green vine, the warm summer breeze, simple and elegant decors and red wine in empty glasses. Oh and the gazebo, you know there's gotta be a gazebo somewhere. Ok ok, I admit that I have a soft spot for vineyards because I had my own wedding there six years ago, at one of the beautiful vineyards in North Fork, Long Island. I was digging in old documents on my computer and came across my wedding invitations, which is what inspired me to put together the following mood board.

National Stationery Show 2011

We've done it, we have survived the show, from setup to tear down, all in a week's work. It was a pretty cool experience. With really interesting, creative people who were very open and eager to share info with us newbies. Surprising considering we are all suppose to be competitors. It was overwhelming last year when we attended the show as buyers, just to see the sheer number of booths and the elaborate decor of some. It was still overwhelming in a whole different worldly way as exhibitors this year as we struggle through the preparations, the setup, the actual show and tear down. There were lots of sleepless nights, we were exhausted beyond belief (all that work for the show plus getting 2 kids ready in the morning and at night, oh boy!), we bought more than we sold but all in all it was a great week.

Thursday, setup day

Putting up the lights and the walls.

Tada! The finished product.

Our beautiful side table and branches for my gift tags.

Of course we gotta have lemons, did you think we weren't gonna get lemons? And lemon drop candy ;)

Double The Happiness

Here's a sneak peak of the wedding invitation that I designed for my old roommate from college and my maid of honor. Sylv was the one who studied with me until the wee hours of morning for that big Marketing test, the one who always had the other half of my chocolate chip cookie, and the one who buttoned my French silk wedding dress at my wedding. I really wanted to create a beautiful and unique package for the person who have been through so much with me. It started off with a completely different design and color theme than the one you see in the photos. It was modern and simple, but wasn't coming together as a whole. When I found out that Sylv wanted the double-happiness character and the color red worked into the invitation, I decided to just start from scratch. Double Happiness is a Chinese character traditionally used in weddings. It is always in red as red is the color of luck and happiness in most Asian cultures. I wanted to create a design that will work harmoniously with the character and the color without it being tacky, and is yet still contemporary. Hence the long, skinny shape of the invitation, I think it gives the whole package a refreshing modern look, while the wine red color adds depth and still remain celebratory and lucky ;). Sylv picked out the metallic silver #10 envelopes for the invitations, I think it works great with the rest of the package and it adds a bit of shimmery interest.
Sylv and Ray are getting married in September, I'm super happy and wish them the best of everything life has to offer. We are almost finished with the invitations, all there left to do is assembly, (all those pieces were hand cut by the way, piece by piece, all 525 of them. Can you say paper cuts?) I'm really happy with the result and hope everyone else will love it as well.

It's almost May, which means...

The National Stationery Show! Every year at the Javits Convention Center, there's a trade show in the stationery industry. It's like the mother of all invitations, stationery, bridal accessories and anything paper related show, aka, candy land for me. And this year, we are going! Every year I've been eyeing it, but this year I finally took the step to apply for registration, and we were approved! (You have to be a business in the industry in order to attend.) All the big names in the industry (Anna Griffin, Kate's Paperie, you name it) will be showing off their best stuff in individual booths. Plus there will be demonstrations, give aways, need I say more? Now that we can go and have a look at all the booths on display, and get an idea of what exactly is required to show there, next year maybe we can actually show our products and have our very own Lemon Drop Papers booth! O the excitement.

Demonstration at the show, it's like arts & crafts time for adults!
